[BC] Radiovision or, Radio Video

As a joke, the d.j. used to say, "Watch your radio folks, so you can
see what I'm about to do next." But in today's New York Times, on
page C1 in the business section, Richard Siklos asks, "Is Radio Still
Radio if There's Video?" The story is an account of the ever
widening practice of stations putting in webcams and letting
listeners watch Mr. Announcer Man over the internet. The drawbacks,
according to at least one personality, is that A. You can't wear just
anything to work anymore, and B. facial contortions to achieve a
certain sound or voice, can be embarrassing.

Lost in all this is something I've never understood--why do people
want to watch a radio show? Or maybe they don't but people in
broadcasting think they do?
