Has anyone tried, and noticed significant reliability improvement from,
increasing the interleaver settings in the Moseley Starlink STL (16QAM)
from the default of 3 to the max of 12?

I need to do whatever I can to overcome occasional very brief ducting
dropouts and BER glitches in a 30 mile over swamp path.

Delay is not a concern, BER is.

Made that very change recently, with immediate benefits. The number of
uncorrected errors ("Post" correction) went from the 1 in 40 range to
something like 1 in 300, typically. These figures vary a lot with severity
of the interference. Situation is a little different - problem is
interference (of unknown origin, but must be broadband or co-channel because
receiver is fitted with a narrow bandpass filter) rather than ducting
dropouts; a short urban path in an rf-noisy environment; 32QAM system. If
the (14?) extra milliseconds of delay don't matter, I can't think of any
reason not to set the interleaver to the max. of "12" and leave it there.
Go for it.
