[BC] Nautel

Scott,
Armstrong is the same way! Sinan Mimaroglu, President of Armstrong
will go way out of his way to please the customer. I have a Armstrong
X-1000B, AM Transmitter, and it replaced my Harris Gates 1, which we
were constantly having problems with.
My Armstrong has been on the air since July of "04", and we have no
been off since. I looked that the Nautel, BE, and the Energy Onix
Transmitter specs and I have found that Armstrong makes the WORLDS
SMALLEST 1 KW AM TRANSMITTER!
I have found that when it comes down to service, they are there for
you when you need them. Now, the Armstrong doesn't have the fancy extras
that the Nautel has, like the timer for power settings, but it does do
the job for my daytime, PSRA/PSSA and flea power nighttime, and is loud.

Scott

>>Anyway, in light of the present discussion, (all of it, not just the
above)
it looks like my 50/50 opinion between Harris & Nautel just leaned a
little
more in Nautel's favor. Maybe 45/55.

Since I'm on a self imposed "snow day" (hey, if Jefferson county schools
can let out early for a "trace" of snow, I can have a snow day too),
I'll respond to this from Willie.

It's getting to the point now that all transmitters are basically the
same. Everyone has a solid state rig that can fit into a rack. And most
of these rigs are somewhat reliable. However, I had an experience with
Nautel that has garnered them even more favor with me I want to relate.
The Monday before Thanksgiving last year the phone rang at 7 am. THIS
is never a good sign and I could tell by the ring something was wrong.
One of my clients was still using a Bauer 707 and it had finally given
up the ghost. I drove down to see if there was anything that could be
done. After two hours of working on the rig, I determined it's time to
replace it (I have since found repair parts and hope to get it back up
and going when the weather is more hospitable). At 4 that afternoon, we
had convinced the owner to replace it with a new Nautel Jazz 1000 rig
and the order was placed. 11pm Tuesday night, the new transmitter was
waiting for me at the Louisville airport (a 1kw transmitter shipped in
two boxes, who would have thunk it?). By 6 o'clock Wednesday morning
they were back on the air. We eventually had to go back down and retune
the antenna to make the Nautel happy, which also explained why they were
going through two sets of PA tubes a year. Although it was Thanksgiving
week, the guys at Nautel really bent over backwards for us to get the
transmitter here. Would Harris or BE have done that? Possibly. Past
experience with Nautel had me convinced this is the transmitter I wanted
for these guys. Nautel didn't let me down.
