[BC] Rising Ratings and Higher Costs for WJIB

I'm actually 26 miles away from Downtown Nashville. I've got monster FM
& AM signals, coming in here, especially from Clear Channel, Cumulus,
and South Central Communications to deal with.
Gallatin, Tennessee has 3 AM stations licensed to it, first is Hispanic
and acts as a Nashville station, WYXE-AM 1130, with 2.5 KW, and its
studios are near Downtown Nashville, 27 miles from their transmitter
site. The second one is Country and Sports formatted WHIN-AM 1010 with 5
KW, and then third, there is mine, Bright AC formatted WMRO-AM, with 1
KW, day. In our county, up the road from my station, in Portland, TN,
there is Adult Standards/Oldies formatted WQKR-AM 1270, with 1 KW. Count
them, 4 AM's in one county (Sumner County) with 4 AM stations.
As a grad of Gallatin High, most of the business owners or managers, I
went to high school with, or they were two or three years ahead or
behind me. Also, I knew some of them before they ever owned or operated
a small business.

Then you are the sales team. You're making my point for me. That's
what I mean by being a part of the community. They buy because of
your relationships, not ratings.

Then you've figured a way to make a station in a small community pay.
So it's not impossible. WJIB is a small station in a close-in suburb
of Boston (Cambridge). Bob competes with virtually every monster
broadcaster in the industry and has made it work. I think we've
convinced ourselves that only the #1 station in a market makes money.
