Scott,

Building a simple matching unit that will fit in a 
rack with one of the new rack mounted Tx's is not 
rocket science. I don't know if it is still there, 
but BE had the schematic of their separate "tuner" 
box for use with the AM500/AM1K on their web site. 

Basically, all you need is a variable Tee network 
so you can adjust the impedance presented to the 
transmitter from a line that is not 50 j0 because 
the ATU is not set up quite right on the other end, 
or because tuning tends to vary as local moisture 
conditions vary. It is also nice to have a tuning
box at the Tx output when trying to diagnose 
problems.
