There are SEVERAL USB sound devices that will do what you need. The encoding
will still be done by the computer. Check Newegg.com or any other site and
search on USB Audio...

I don't think you understand what I need.  Audacity only works with
internal sound cards. I want to record line-level stereo on a laptop
that only has a mono mic input.  This means the A>D conversion must
done externally so that it can be inputted to the harddrive via USB.
