This was the first year I was so swamped I couldn't find time to get out to the Lake or Valley of Fire, but the sprawl was obvious on a short drive East out Tropicana to where you could see the houses all the way to the mountains. Lake Mead was VERY noticeably low last year when I drove out. You could see that some of the boat launch areas were going to be unusable soon. It's pretty sad that the sheer insanity of that sprawl isn't being addressed. I don't know why there aren't massive solar arrays in the Vegas area to generate power and caps on the expansion within reasonable limits for the water resources (well, yeah I guess I do). Is no one interested in surviving beyond the next roll of the dice? Never mind, I was just there, I already know the answer...

As for the LV sprawl...Like I said...it's simply unsustainable already. I
just don't see how that basin can tolerate the continued construction and
not reach a limit for water, power and other resource use. The area's
success will also be it's demise. If not soon, certainly by the next major
economic or climate depression. And the whole SW USA will be damaged as a
result. Just look to Lake Mead as the leading indicator.... It's quite
obvious from the air.
