You are right.  In fact Premiere even calls every so often to check the
serials against their inventory.

I don't think I'd buy a used one without calling Starguide and checking
the serial #.  Lots of WW1 Starguide IIs are out in the field.  IIRC, ABC
gave ownership of most of the ones they distributed to their affiliates;
but Premiere has retained ownership of their affiliate-distributed
Starguides (most of them Starguide IIIs).
