Ah! That solves the mystery of why the Office manager's machine, with the
same drive and same ripper, runs quite a bit slower... it's XP! Ok, well, there

is yet *another* reson to prefer 98SE over XP! (Vista is not even a
consideration. Consider it M$'s newest "ME" - Mistake Edition. I was reading so
me online
surveys saying that a significant number of people are "aware" of Vista, but
have *no intentions* of getting it. Good for them... that's the right answer.

That's an interesting observation. The CDeX software does have some settings
that can be tweaked, which may optimize the performance for different drives.
Unfortunately, LiteOn no longer makes the drives which I have ripping audio at
22x+. I just bought their newest CD/RW drive as a spare. I haven't tested it,
tho. At only $20, I figured "Why not?" These drives *do* eventually croak,
(often w/o warning!) so it's best to just have a spare on the shelf.
