CD ripping is faster in Win98SE than it is in XP, because 98 allows direct
access to the hardware, while XP forces the ripper to go through Windows
to get to the hardware.

But it really depends on the quality of your hardware.  I have one "48X"
CD-ROM drive which will breeze through a whole CD in just a couple
minutes, like yours -- and another "48X" CD-ROM drive which is so slow and
error-
prone that if I was stuck with it, I'd be better off just dubbing the CD
in real time, just like the olden days when we dubbed records to tape!
