Paul:

If you have a cell phone with an external mike input you can probably
use a dynamic plugged directly into it.

We have Motorola V-60 style phones, the only difficult part of the
project is the somewhat odd-ball sized mini plug (but they are
available from Mouser.

As I remember tip and shield is the mike connection, while tip and
ring is the headphone connection. A 635 works fine, while an RE-16
did not have enough output to keep the phone's squelch open. You
could also use a venerable Shure mixer with mike level out to drive
the phone. We've tried the cell output from a JK sportscaster but the
level was too hot, the audio clipped..

My lash-up used a headset phone cut up, headset mike run through a
minibox with a switch to the cannon for the 635. We've only used it
for "Hi, how are ya, we're here at so and so remotes" where there is
no possibility of finding a phone line. Such as in the middle of a
fairgrounds. At the studio, a Shure pa equalizer feeds a 424 then
into the board

Of course, it's still a cell phone. Simple voice into mike works
reasonably well, complicated sound such as from a basketball game
"swims." Connection will vanish without warning.

It would be nice to revert to analog as Bernie suggested, but most of
our analog sites are going away.
