Another tip- if you have a dual-mode cell phone that is capable of
being forced into analog mode, do so before you call back into your
studio, the quality will be a heck of a lot better.

Indeed yes. Our remote setup is a Shure wireless mic feeding a
Comrex frequency extender and a CellJack that interrupts the handset
on an old Motorola bag phone. This is all mounted in an ATA case
along with a radio and a power amp for our speakers. I worked up an
interface to connect a digital phone for backup in case there is no
analog service. I tried both systems on our last remote, and there
was a hiss in the background with the analog phone, but the digital
phone gave us a raspy, gargly sound that the station operator said
sounded much worse than the analog. No hiss, though. Oh, we are
using a Gentner unit at the studio for frequency extension. I don't
quite know what to do when the analog service is turned off. Maybe
we could tap into the client's POTS system and do it that way, but
that has its own set of problems.

Oh, the remote was at a jewelry store and they did $48,000 in sales
in the first two hours of the remote. I don't know what the total
was for the day.
