My AOL payment comes from my credit card. Why can't you call AOL to cancel,
let them have their little hissy fit and call your credit card company and tell
them that you card has been lost? When they go to bill you, your CC account
number is no longer valid, they don't get paid. When they send you a
snottygram telling you that your card does not work, you tell them to cancel your
account and to go get bent.

Now if that does not work....

They can't bill you without billing information. You of course, follow up
with an email to them so you have a paper trail.

I've legitimately lost my CC card and AOL threatened to cancel my accont if I
fail to give them a working card and yes, it was a real AOL email and not fro
m a PHisherman.

BTW I have never once had the uninstallation of my AOHell client software
hose my computer. I've used everything from Win 3.11 up to Win XP with no issues
like that. One good reason not to jump on the latest and greatest AOL software
just because it's new.
