Why not just tuck it inside the cabinet? I'm sure there's PLENTY of room. ;)
Then you can use a standard relay, with the 555 ckt & a driver transistor
to power the relay. You could get the power from one of the 6v filament 
supplies. A voltage-doubler ckt would give you at least 12-15v, which should
work quite nicely. Since it's not for a B'cast station, you can easily get 
away
with shortcuts. I know I would. ;) Forget the motor. Mount it for looks, but
use the 555 for the actual control ckt. :)

Of course, the 1 min timer isn't too bad, since it's only when first 
powered-up.
