Subject: Re: [BC] "all new" format

While I'm not suggesting programming by committee, I'm instead suggesting
looking at a different source for the material the MD and PD select from.
This started out as a discussion about excess license fees. There's good
material out there that would not be subject to ASCAP/BMI/SESAC license
fees because the composer/performer has not been "discovered" yet. I'm
suggesting that this be the source of program material. The MD and PD are
still required to do the selecting. After seeing all the garbage stations
receive from record companies, I'm not convinced that submissions from the
general public would be any worse. There's gonna be some good stuff
  submitted.

As Joni Mitchel said "He was playing real good for free." "But no one
listened because they hadn't heard him on the radio." Let's put that real
  good music on the radio.

OK...I see where you're going. You would agree, this probably would be a "niche" fomat?
Actually, I'm glad I started talking to you about this because being you're the guy with the FCC rules site I NEED to ask a question. This will be a lateral shift in the thread so if you want you can either email me off-list or change the subject line. I kept it the same so you'd recognize the original subject. Quick summary:

I moved out of the bigger markets and moved to my country property in lower Alabama. I was tired of the big cities. I've done them most all of my life. Onward. I'm working for a small station currently operating under an LMA. Two local businessmen want to buy the station and give me a nice percentage. (sweat equity) They happen to like the format I'm developing, the on-air work I do and my work ethic, experience in the biz, etc. What I want (need is the better word) to know is how much control can the holder of an LMA have in terms the of day-to-day operations of the station? The answer I need is from the FCC perspective, obviously. I will probably have to go off-list should you need specifics. Can you help me out here?

  Thanks!
