I have a question about Mt Diablo.

We had a microwave site there around 1970.
I was told that it was in the old KOVR channel
13 building, two story building, tall self
supporting tower next to it. The upper story
had a large picture window facing the Sacramento
valley, a long row of Motorola Compa station
repeaters across the middle of the floor, and
our rack just inside the door.  Later on,
someone else told me it really wasn't the
Channel 13 building, so I've always wondered.
If you continued up the main road, you came
to the observatory, and the access road to
the building was steep with a sharp dogleg.


Was this the North site? Or did the
terms north site and south site come into
play after 1972? And was this truly the
old KOVR building? 

We left the site in 72, we changed affiliation
from ABC to CBS and moved the network feed point
from KGO to KXTV in Sacramento. I've never been
back. Somehow the trips to Diablo were never fun.
We needed a 20 watt TWT for the 7 GHz path across
the valley, and it was a maintenance headache.

Lastly, on the way up the hill, there was a
large microwave facility that I was told
belonged to the Navy, what happened to that?
