[BC] VOIP and telephone hybrid

It works with regular phones, so they should be identical: While on-hook
(hung up) -48 to -52Vdc on the ring wire, less than -5Vdc on the tip wire;
~70Vac @ 20Hz on the ring wire when ringing. (On an older wiring scheme
[using "quad wire"] , Red is L1 Tip, Green is L2 Ring, Black is L2 Tip, and
Yellow is L2 Ring. On newer wiring [using cat3 or cat5], Blue is L1, Orange
is L2, the white/color wire is the tip, the color/white wire is the ring)...
Alright, enough with the telecommunications lesson for today.
I would imagine that a Vonage interface can replicate these fairly reliably,
as I have hooked up an entire house to an interface before without any
problems (WARNING: Do NOT try this at home unless you know what you're
doing! Backfeeding Vonage's signal into the Telco's signal could be VERY
BAD!)
But anyway, the only problem I can see with this is voice quality. If you
already have Vonage somewhere in the station, hook it up and experiment with
the audio quality of the system, in which case, using one that plugs
directly to the telco jack or one that uses the handset connection won't
make too much difference
.
That said, I've never put a vonage system on a test bench and actually
measured out the pairs, so I can make no garuntees that it does in fact
follow Bell standards properly. So do so at your own risk. (find an old
hybrid and test it first)
