This is purely a guess, as I am not privy to iBiquity's management decision
making, but my guess is that they didn't want to send any more of their
revenue stream to Europe than absolutely necessary. They are already paying
licensing fees for the SBR part of HDC, as Coding Technologies developed
and owns that intellectual property. aacPlus would have been another
significant financial hit for them because of the additional codec
licensing expenses.
As you know, Orban has licences for AAC and aacPlus, used in our Opticodec
products. These licenses are NOT cheap.
