I must apologize to BE. Shortly after their visit in mid-December to
bless my basic installation of the 4MX50, I got swamped with time-sensitive
work. . . a troublesome AM HD install at another station (of a different
manufacturer?s gear), the holidays, and a freakin? BROKEN TOE!
I finally got the remote controls, phasor interlocks, RF switching,
pattern-change mutes, and triplex interlocks figured out, built and working
on Wednesday morning, January 18th. WBIX began normal operation with the
4MX50 around 8:30 AM, and is running on automatic as I write this, two days
later.
This transmitter seems to be quite happy with the pretty-funky common
point loads it sees in this 1200/1060/650 triplex system. I?m not getting
any VSWR trips, even with more aggressive audio processing than I ever dared
run into the MW-50.
Now that the 4MX50 is on-the-air regularly during normal daytime
hours, Jerry and the guys from BE can resume their fine-tweaks to the
controller starting next week.
The 4MX50 is so much cleaner than the previous transmitter that we can
now hear more problems in the source material. Time to replace a few
microphones and chase down a few distortions in the audio system. . .
