However, I thought I'd make a point from some research I did 'way
back in the 70's about perception of separate sound streams. I
wondered how many discrete sounds could be perceived by an average
person. If you isolate them in a stereo field, it turns out that
most folks can hear and pay attention to 5 to 7 different voices, but
if you switch to mono, you're toast. Unfortunately, for many radio
isn't worthy of serious listening. Cars could be so wonderful... but
then, I suppose radio would be labeled an accident-causing distraction.
