It is not that the AWACS aircraft are on the receive frequency, it is that
the peak power of the signal is so strong that it desenses the LNB's, which
are pretty broadband. We have a couple of sites where we have two filters
in series to take care of the problem.
In Alaska we are also bothered by shipboard radar in Juneau, Seward, and
Valdez. And we have problems with aircraft radar altimeters.
We install filters on all new installations, even if we do not have a
problem now, because someday we will.
(Watching AWACS aircraft landing as I type)

Well, if you can get that far (and I found out they used that band just be
using Google) you could probably find the exact part of the band with a
spectrum analyzer and an LNA or even LNB. Just waive it around when you
hear the interference. Although I wouldn't count on them staying in that
band (or having a clean signal). Even with an AWACs filter hanging on our
LNB I can still hear them go over on ocasion. (And not just AWACS, fighter
planes use a similar band--they sent a pair of F-18's to escort an Air
France plane into Cincinnati a year ago or so--know the flight path--been
on that flight--it's right over our site.
