I have a file folder FULL of junk faxes I received in 2005, and filed
complaints on each with the FCC. I've now started my 2006 file. Late last
year I received an email from the FCC requesting copies of a few of the
faxes they were following up on. These were "pump and dump" faxes where
the faxer was paid anywhere between $20k and $100k to promote a stock.
By the way, the rules regarding junk faxing (and telemarketing) are at
http://www.hallikainen.com/FccRules/2006/64/1200/ . Also see
http://www.hallikainen.org/FCC/FccRules/CiteFind/0641200.htm for the TONS
of citations the FCC has issued for violations of this rule. I found a
couple fines in there, one to a fax broadcaster (fax.com) and another, as
I recall, to a painting and wallpaper contractor.
The JFPA, passed by Congress in 2005 is really called the Junk Fax
Prevention Act, but is more commonly called the Junk Fax Protection Act or
Junk Fax Preservation Act due to its protection of junk faxers.
