Actually if I had been in the listeners position I might have done
the same thing, and once alerted, the Swat guys have to play it for real.
In a hostage situation anything you can do to get the message out that
you're in trouble would be a good idea. Obviously the listener took it
seriously.
The only thing the PD learned was that an M16 in the back is not
very comfortable (Actually he described it as being in an orifice somewhat
lower), and that no amount of money could have bought the publicity that
event brought on. The normal media talk about the continuous play of twist
and shout stunt was minimal, but it became general news on all the TV and
newspapers when the police became involved. Not planned, but very
serendipitous. I AM NOT ENCOURAGING, SUGGESTING OR OTHERWISE INDICATING
THAT A FALSE ALARM POLICE REPORT IS A GOOD THING.
