When I first went to work there 30 some years ago we were using cyro cooled
para-amps.  They required two days to cool down to 18 deg K so we could
receive the signal from the bird (and you think you got it bad now
;-)  )....  We used Helium vapor to chill them down..

God, I'm an old fart..  :-)
