Stanton 500's had one thong going for them: ruggedness. Sonically they were
inferior stereo cartridges for anything but playing 78's. They DID have a good
78 stylus available for this unit though. They were okay for mono use also.
The Stanton 681 series were the first really good sounding Stanton broadcast
cartridges.
Their 881 series was even better.
Stanton also owned Pickering and the 500E and EE cartridges were available as
Pickering models as well.
They also owned one other high end line, but the name escapes me. I used to
own one of the cartridges and would rate it similar to the Stanton 881S.

Guys, being of the non-Monster Cable religion, let me mention what may be
being overlooked. The Stanton 500 carts are about the best there is and
have always been. Forget all the expensive ones, which is all just hype.
One good thing about Stanton is that you can also buy 78 styles and also buy
custom 78 type styles.
So the purists can stick their money in that stuff, I have hundred's of dubs
including 78's and these units are cheap, reliable, predictable and they
just plain work. In addition, the multi-style packs are very reasonably
priced.
