This Forum is one very good place! There are a lot of folks here with
connections that could get you in touch with a station that's looking to unload an
old AM box. Many of them will gladly let you take it, but you have to do the
muscle work.
Thinking of old "Heavy Metal" transmitters like these... tonight is the
"Heavy Metal" night on Ham Radio, 160 and 75 meters. Fire up the AM rigs, and get
on the air. :) It is a night dedicated to honoring those heavy old boxes, so
fire 'em up! :) I'm up & down the band on 75/80, listening for AM signals, and
responding when able.
Although my homebrew transmitter doesn't weigh a fraction as much as one of
those old monsters, it's still "heavy metal" in that it's a plate-modulated
