although I forget the exact circumstances surrounding the situation, 
about 2 years ago a producer for CBS news was fired for interrupting 
a program to make some 'special report' that the network didn't feel 
was 'special' enough to interrupt programming for.  So if I were in 
that position currently I think I'd be a little gun shy in that 
situation as well.
