I asked a friend of mine who seems to know everything that has gone on in radio over the years. He and I went to college together. Here's his reply to that question you asked Barry.

"Believe it or not the DIA was for Diane..the daughter of the first owner of WDIA. Then it became "the Diamond of the south" Then they bought KDIA in 1959."

So there you have it. I noticed someone else in the group spoke about Diane but my friend amplified it a bit for us.
