Regarding the ownership issue that Paul asked about, James Brown 
owned 3 black stations which he purchased in late 1967/ early 1968 -- 
WRDW in Augusta GA, WJBE in Knoxville TN, and according to the NY 
Times, he also bought WEBB in Baltimore.  This was actually rather 
unique at the time-- while there were more than three hundred black 
music stations on the air in the late 60s, just about every one was 
owned by a white person  (usually a white male) -- the Times could 
find only about 10 that were owned by a black person (male or female).
