I beleive the 86a was the version that replaced the 96a, then the BA-6 came
along. Here is a bad photo of the 2 RCA models

BA-85 Compressor, BA-87 Clipper. The BA-6A was a later tube type version
of the BA-6 Peak limiter.

You are correct the old RCA in the bottom of your photo was the one we had
on our old Western Electric 6B transmitter at WRR in Dallas. It was either an
86-A or 96-A and the mnual had 1935 on it as I recall.

RCA's later solid state line of AGC, Limiters (AM&FM) and clippers (AM&FM)
later were alsp labeled "BA" "Broadcast Audio"

BA-43, Solid State Program Amplifier, BA-45 Solid State AGC Module, BA-46
Solid State Limiter Module and the BA-47 Solid State FM Pre-emphasis clipper
module. This package was purchased for KNUS-FM when they went FM Stereo. It
never achieved the control of the CBS FM Audimax/Volumax package.

  Thanks

Dave
