As a listener, I find this chest thumping by the originating
stations annoying. When I worked at WCUZ, it started on the Tiger
Network. I called the originating station, WJR, and they had the
audacity to say that this was the only way they could ID their station.
They also fed WJR's commercials down the line. So if the board announcer
was late, you would hear those. Waaaay back in 1973, the late Warren
Reynolds did the Berlin Raceway network, originating from us at WOOD. I
fed our "network" of 4 stations from our audition side. They never heard
our ID's nor commercials. There is no reason the originating stations
have to do it.

Now, how to stop it? My guess is the originating station will tell
the affiliates to get lost. But in most states, how many affiliates are
there anyway? Maybe 15-20? so you all email each other and contact the
folks at the originating station on the same day. If he (I say he, cause
a female wouldn't do this), blows you all off, then next year when the
contract comes up, each affiliate adds a line, or negotiates that the
originating station pays $ 75 per ID, per station. My guess is that 95%
of all affiliates never talk to each other. My guess is that they could
institute a change.
