Depends upon the delay box they are using, but the Eventide allows for
gradual (across a minute or so) easing in and out of delay (yes, both
directions), as well as instant invocation of the delay. If you're asking
how, going into delay, content is added into time slices of the digital
audio, keeping the pitch the same, and taking advanctage of any silence in
the content. Going out, the content is sliced and constant passages of sound
are compressed slightly to bring the program back to live.
Is that what you were asking? The producer usually does this, although,
since it's right in front of me, I usually do it when I'm on the air.
