In the electrification between Boston and New Haven, I believe there is a
grounded high wire on top of the live wire.

I remember the upgrade. I'm told there are several Boston-New York
trains that don't change engines to join with Springfield-Vermont
trains. What did Metro-North do adjust? Or did they have to? Come to
think of it doesn't Metro-North use a third rail which is why they
can't go beyond New Haven? As I look back on it I seem to recall
Jersey Transit as the only commuter line that used overhead power. I
remember thunderstorms regularly shutting Jersey Transit down between
Penn-NY and Penn-Newark.

When I worked for IDT, Newark, thunderstorms were almost guaranteed
at rush hour. One big lightning strike and the lines were down.
