most 'modern' equipment is set up with 208 and 240 V primary taps

older stuff may be a problem, and require b/b xfmrs

I have run '277V' flourescent ballasts (read: 'failed to check before buying
at a surplus sale') on 240 V.........but they were a bitch to start in cold
weather
