I got to hear one just one time. Dad was flying at the time, and showed me
how it worked.
I was quite interested, but was only about 10 at the time. By the time I was
in the business
and knew how they did this, the old 4-course ranges were all but extinct, so
I never saw one
in person. Sure would have liked to.
This kind of experience and the blinking red lights on distant towes at
night and the many
stations that could be heard at night are all part of what drew me to this
business.

This is what I hear most pilots use them for anymore. Every so often, I go
to ebay looking for
and ADF setup, but they always go for far more than I'm willing to part with
just for another
toy (DFing AM broadcast stations as I cross country).
