I'll bet that A-54 would be a screamer with a modern Motorola
Transistorized [current loop] base mike attached.

It would sound like a condenser mike driving like a real good carbon mic.

I have a Elmac A-54 (carbon mic in) and a A-54H
(high impedance mic in).  I ran across an article
on a tropical band station in South America that
used one for its one and only transmitter.  Sat
on a tall pedestal and had what looked like an 8
inch muffin fan attached to the rear panel.  Had
to make an opening for that.  No...I don't
operate mine with the band switch in the 11 meter position.  {8 O

Just found four JAN 807s (one used in the final)
still in their boxes.  With the scant amount of
air time I have nowadays, I'm good for quite a while.

This sounds like a transmitter that was originally marketed to hams that
ended up in a BC station.  Temco made amateur transmitters, back in the
40s/early 50s IIRC, that were advertised in QST.

I have seen some pretty strange things used for AM broadcast auxiliary
transmitters.  One homebuilt, one modified E.F. Johnson Viking I, one
modified Multi-Elmac AF-67, for RPU on 1606 kc, and one Hallicrafters
BC-610.  The homebrew job was in an open wood rack.  An OSHA inspector
would
have had a stroke.
