I think polarization modulation would be similar to quadrature amplitude
modulation except that instead of using two carriers that are 90 degrees
out of phase, they are 90 degrees out of polarization. You could modulate
the two carriers indepenently using either AM or QAM. In both cases,
sidebands would be created. If you modulate them together, switching from
one polarization to the other, this would be the same as AM (on off
keying) on the two polarizations. This would generate sidebands the same
as any other AM signal.
