As I recall, it was called a "Caro-Stat."  We bought a new SMC automation
system in ~1977 and it came with a couple of them.  Each cart sat on a
little flat tray, with its own pinch roller.  They never worked reliably and
were quickly replaced with Carousels.

"Which one was the multi-tray deck that was similar to the Instacart, but
on its side? IIRC, it was made by or for SonoMag (SMC) of Carousel fame
(or infamy).
