[BC] AM Stereo

There is a good reason for this-unlike FM stereo where since the L+R and L-R
levels are inter related (as in if you have more L+R you have less L-R and the
reverse)-AM stereo never suffered from this. The L+R and L-R were transmitted
in completely separate ways. There is no noise penalty with receiving AM
stereo, nor is there any mono (L+R) loudness 'hit'.

Bill, at first it might seem that way,
but several studies in that era
(including one a U of Windsor?)
established that if the same cut
were played on AM stereo and
FM stereo, the average listener
preferred the AM stereo.
Maybe Bob Orban or Greg Ogonowski
(not sure if Frank is monitoring the
list right now - or Corny - or Jeff Keith)
remember it better ... but that is
what I remember being told at NAB.
