WHYN-TV, atop Mt. Tom had a "company-provided" .22 to scare off mountain lions (lynx) and other bothersome animals. Nobody was trained in its use. It was just assumed that if anyone needed it, they'd figure out quickly how to put the bullet into its single-shot bolt-action chamber and point the correct end at the intruder.

When I was on duty, a mountain lion entered during a thunderstorm and hid behind the FM transmitter which was also at the site. I loaded the gun, opened all the doors, got a broom, and walked towards the animal while slamming the broom onto the concrete floor over and over again. The cat got the idea and promptly left. Without the gun, I would have not been able to do that. I would have to call Charles DeRose, the owner, and it would be his problem.... This cat was bigger than most North American Bobcats. It was probably from Canada I was told.

Cheers,
Richard B. Johnson

Lawyers, or a ravenous mountain lion.
OK, that one *is* a hard choice !

 I don't think I'd *provide* a firearm, but I'd sure carry one.
