The broadcaster needs to fade to black at the very least in order to have
control over what is being broadcast. Imagine somebody sending the wrong
video feed to an uplink. Mrs. Robinson's porno flick isn't acceptable
according to the FCC. The broadcaster needs to have control and the control can't
come from some network master control in New York. It needs to be local to
the TV station.>>>
But Richard, do TV stations really have control? Like radio, I get the
impression TV is now heavily automated. It's not like the old days when
there was someone switching in MCR.
If there is someone in MCR there's a good chance they are overseeing
multiple video feeds to secondary digital channels and co-owned stations --
sometimes multiple stations in other markets.
In cable headends there can be one operator overseeing over 100 channels
with local commercial inserts.
