   It works for me, if the tower is too tall just mount the stub higher so only 3/4 wl exists above 
the grounded end of the stub, this raises the high current part of the antenna above the tree line,
I don't think the FCC would like it for am broadcast.  (I'm a TV guy.)
   Remember a "J" pole antenna is just an end fed dipole.
