That would have been years ago that I was near there.  Assuming the 
subway did have its own power as reported by the media and interviews 
with subway folks did that change after 1965? Is this "essential" 
plant off the grid and not affected by the failure of the regional 
delivery systems? If so, that's probably what they meant by having 
their own plants.
