Hardening on guy lines = no flex = bad (IMHO)
I heard that the flexing of guy lines causes friction, and therefore
heat, and is a major contributer of global warming..... right behind
(pun intended) cow gas.

Apparently this is some sort of petroleum product, similar to heavy
motor oil, that is applied to the wires and hardens. Supposedly it
prevents corrosion, premature guy failure, hair loss, IRS
audits...well, you know.
