I was able to thank my father for all the things he did
for me about two minutes before he drew his last
breath. The hardest part was telling mom that he died.
After his deteriorating health had mandated I place him
in a nursing home, I did so at the same one where mom
resided. I was no longer able to care for him at home.

I visited mom every day and she told me she saw dad in
his wheelchair waving to her (after his passing). It was
four months later that I got a 3 am call that mom was
being sent to the hospital. By 7 am I knew it was when,
not if, she would pass. I asked her to wish dad a Happy
New Year and tell him I miss him. She died two hours
later. The CCU nurse told me her body was just saying
"I know what you're trying to do, but no thanks. I'm
ready to go now." After 57 years of marriage you do
become attached and there is separation anxiety.
