The Neutrik MR1 does that in analogue form, for 100 bucks-ish.

OK, the battery wouldn't last long if you left it running on a line, but you
could easily power it from a wall-wart.

Hey Bob:  maybe that is a good new product....A digital audio  oscillator
that steps thru the response range 50- 15 Khz. in about 10 steps that  has
both an plain old analog output and an AES/EBE output.
