Hence the rationale for traffic cameras. KQV's traffic reporter is at the
PennDOT regional office. The highway agency has an information center, a
mission control type room with a wall of traffic cameras showing the interstates and
tunnel interiors.

Our morning drive reporter Jimi Miller (who's actually a Metro Traffic
employee) has described accidents as they occurred. Awed listeners have called to
tell us they heard the play-by-play of the accident occurring before their eyes.

Being in what is branded as the PennDOT Information Center has given the
traffic reports credibility. The downside is not seeing surface streets and other
roadways off of the interstate system.

The TVs have access to the live streams for their morning traffic reports.
Stills from the cameras are posted on a PennDOT website.
