Years ago at KANZ-FM in Western Kansas we had a tornado sort of sideswipe
the transmitter site which was collocated with a television station.
Various bad things happened with a nearby substation.  In a few minutes the
utility came back on, sort of.  I was standing in master control looking at
the remote control and the monitor.  Seeing some of the bizarre readings I
uttered the usual, "Holy s**t".  When the power went off the mic was on.
When the power came back on the mic was on.  I was sure startled to see the
modulation meter indicate my transmission!

Funny you should append that to a story about a problem at KRDO.  When I was
a newsman there back in the early 70's, a producer got in trouble because
his extremely loud profanity over the intercom was so loud it was picked up
on the studio mics, faintly, but enough that the GM could tell at home.  The
result wasn't just a suspension for him, but we all had to put up with lower
intercom levels!
