Robert,

My heart has always been in the same place it was when I heard
WLW testing with IBOC several years ago. Ibiquity's product
has the odor of dead fish left in the sun too long and has
not improved. I do believe we need something better, and I
equally believe we won't get it until "HD" fails flatly (if,
in fact it does). Once again, the answer is determined by
framing of the question, but a few hundred thousand sets
proving failure is far better than a few million. Looking
at it from the "AM" or MW transmission perspective, whatever
we do for "HD" will work for a replacement, so I'm all for
going full speed ahead with HD AM nighttime. This is where
the impossible arrays are, and where the combination of
skywave and pattern b/w will manifest the worst IX. Since
we have an FCC that abhors technical leadership and loves
saying, "The MARKET decided this," let's get on with it and
let "the market" speak. Get over it, and get on with it, is
my philosophy, and let the real market speak for itself. If
it turns up its nose and we have to begin pulling the IBOC
plug at night on half the stations running it, then maybe,
just maybe, the light will dawn and other products (e.g. DRM)
will have a chance. Then, perhaps multi-mode receivers will
become a reality in the market. But, I've been saying this
for several years, Robert. It is not a change of heart. I
also see the digital reality. Until IBOC fails, it is what
we have, and all we will get. Thus, on this point, Rich and
I agree completely. Let's get on with it.
