I think I'd have a problem with that. Are you sure the salesperson
wasn't still working with the client to extend the buy? If the client
did extend it how would you have explained the lack of the other two
spots? I have to admit I have a problem with employees deciding on
their own what part of a production order to follow. Your job was to
cut 7 spots, not to argue with sales about how many were needed.
Salespeople have relationships with clients and agencies that change
by the minute. In New York a spot can run into thousands per run.
Let's say each spot was to be billed at $1500. How would you explain
the loss of $3000 if the client either asked for makegoods or
cancelled future orders?
Unless you're part of the sale I doubt you have enough information to
overrule the Traffic/Sales department. I've seen many orders increase
because the salesperson was still working on merchandising or offers
from the "prize closet."
I know it's heresy here to suggest that anyone but engineering has
brains, but, sometimes they do. If you had cost my station the
additional money I would have fired you.
